I wrote a couple of days ago about getting yourself out of creative ruts. Chris Garrett writing on Copyblogger yesterday really nailed the essence of it: challenge yourself to use your brain in an unusual way.
Yes – that’s what all my tips were getting at, but I didn’t say it so concisely as Chris.

‘Doctor, doctor – my creativity feels all tired and unimaginative.’
‘I see. I’ll need to examine your brain. If I just… Aha! A nasty case of brain ruts.’
‘Is it serious, doctor?’
‘It deadens the mind and the spirit – but some people actually like it. Just remember to use your brain in an unusual way whenever you can.’
‘How can I ever thank you?’
